What is End of Life Support? Why a Death Doula?
What is end of life support and deathcare, you may be wondering? Why a death doula? And the answer to this question is as individual as each person living and dying at any given moment. It is something we will explore together, specific to your needs. At the heart of deathcare is a foundation of non-medical support, education, compassion, and of empowerment throughout the journey of death and dying.
Heart Wise Deathcare offers non-medical support, education, preparedness, compassion, and empowerment for the person dying and for their constellation of family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, pets, and community.
Support
As a death doula, I offer support to the dying and to their constellation of family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, pets, and community. This might look like getting paperwork in order, it could be offering support during a difficult transition, supporting you in legacy work, getting your possessions organized. I offer support as you plan your own funeral, make your own rituals, work with your medical team, and celebrate and grieve this incredible ride of life. Always, I am here to support you on your journey, to listen with compassion and curiosity and to be your advocate.
Prepare & Educate
I offer education around end-of-life topics such as getting affairs in order (all the paperwork!), options for your body, for ritual and ceremony, for community resources, what to expect with the body at end of life, etc… While I cannot provide legal, financial, medical or psychological advice, I can help you find the right person to support you in these professional settings. Often education will look like discussing your options and exploring what is most important to you.
Empower & Advocate
Empowering you and your constellation is truly a magical aspect of this work. Deep down, if we’re open to it and feel “allowed,” we already know how to care for our people during death and dying. It is, and I believe this wholly, in our bones. You’re already doing it. Sometimes, we just need someone to remind us, “you can do this however you want!” Trust your creativity, trust what is meaningful to you and your constellation, trust what you deep down inside believe to be true. Trust who you are – death and dying doesn’t change any of that. As a death doula, I’m here to honor and support you in this exploration.
